About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret EKG strips Description: Unit has a total of 12 beds. Ratios are 1:1 to 1:2; 1:1 ratios do not occur often. Charge nurse duties generally do not include taking patients but may provide break relief. No nurse aides are available on the unit. Weekend requirement is 4 shifts minimum in a 4-week period. Holidays will rotate with core staff. Scrubs should be navy, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy. Telemetry monitoring is involved. Ventilator management is required. A hospitalist or intensivist is present in-house. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, starting at 07:00 and ending at 19:30, with report conducted at the bedside. Extra shifts may be available. Self-scheduling is used but not finalized until management balances it. Schedules are released 4 weeks in advance, and travelers can access schedules from home. Floating to other facilities may occur but mid-shift floating is rare. Floor-specific orientation includes 1 to 2 days on the unit with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include medical/surgical ICU patients such as non-STEMIs, CVA, multiple organ failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-operative patients with complications. Bedside procedures such as TEEs and bronchoscopies are commonly performed. Comfort care patients are also managed in this unit. Multidisciplinary rounds are conducted during the day. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system used is Cerner. A BSN is not required. Trauma level and care setting indicate an acute environment.
