About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse to join an Intensive Care Unit team in Sacramento, CA. The ICU RN will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and medically complex patients who require continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and close clinical observation.

The ideal candidate will have strong critical-care experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively to changes in patient condition.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients throughout the shift.
• Perform detailed physical and clinical assessments and continuously monitor patient status.
• Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other critical indicators.
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and clinical deterioration.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized critical-care plans.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments safely according to physician orders and facility policies.
• Manage and monitor central lines, arterial lines, drains, catheters, and other critical-care devices as applicable.
• Monitor patients requiring oxygen therapy, ventilatory support, and other respiratory interventions.
• Review laboratory and diagnostic results and communicate significant changes to physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
• Monitor patients for complications and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
• Provide pain, sedation, and comfort management while monitoring patient response.
• Assist with procedures, treatments, emergency interventions, and bedside clinical procedures.
• Respond appropriately to rapid response events, emergencies, and code situations.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Monitor intake and output and maintain accurate clinical records.
• Provide appropriate wound and skin care and support pressure injury prevention.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, technicians, CNAs, and other healthcare professionals.
• Educate patients and families when appropriate regarding treatment, care plans, and recovery.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, procedures, and transitions of care.
• Follow infection prevention, medication safety, patient identification, and other hospital safety protocols.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Provide safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered critical care.

Qualifications

• Current and active RN license eligible for practice in California.
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or critical-care nursing experience.
• Strong knowledge of critical-care nursing principles and practices.
• Experience with complex patient assessment and continuous monitoring.
• Strong understanding of cardiac rhythm monitoring and hemodynamic assessment.
• Experience with IV medications, central lines, arterial lines, and critical-care therapies.
• Familiarity with ventilatory and respiratory support.
• Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-acuity situations.
• Willingness to work Night Shift on a 3×12 schedule.
• Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements.
