- Associate's degree in paralegal studies or legal assistance and two years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or work involving legal procedures, terminology, or administration OR
- Certificate in Paralegal Studies + Two years of legal support experience needed OR
- Bachelor's or higher in paralegal studies, legal assistant, or a related field - no experience needed OR
- Bachelor's or higher in an unrelated field + an Associate or Certification in paralegal studies - no experience needed OR
- Two years of paralegal experience + Two years of legal support experience
- Conducts legal research and provides summaries
- Prepares documents and exhibits
- Assembles necessary information for legal proceedings
- Drafts a variety of legal documents
- Maintains case files and case logs
- Reviews legal documents for completeness and conformance to specific requirements
- Interviews witnesses and clients to obtain or clarify case preparation information
- Identifies deficiencies and discrepancies detected during file and document examination and takes appropriate action
- Manages litigation calendars and monitors court deadlines to ensure timely filings
- Communicates with clients, government agencies, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and court personnel
- Coordinates the intake, tracking, and processing of public records requests in accordance with applicable state public records laws and agency policies
- Monitors changes in court rules, public records laws, election laws, tax statutes, and administrative procedures affecting litigation support
- Office and courtroom setting in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations
- May require long periods of sitting while completing paperwork, standing and moving about while performing duties
- Ability to travel to and from various county locations for court appearances, meetings, and training, using personal or county-owned vehicles
- Ability to move up to 20 pounds from floor to waist and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds a distance of up to 100 feet
- Upon completion of a successful 6-month period after hire, employees are eligible to telework up to 16 hours per week with supervisor approval. The ability to telework is dependent upon the employee's position and business needs
