Certified Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff

The base salary for the position is $61,969.36. The $64,448.13 salary listed above includes a 4% First Responder Supplement. The Broward Sheriff's Office is now offering condensed testing for ALL Certified Deputy Sheriff applicants. Human Resources will schedule and coordinate the selection process within a one-week period to expedite the applicant process. Applicants are responsible for all travel expenses. Required Documents for Submitting the Online Application: SWIMMING and PHYSICAL AGILITY tests results. If ever arrested, submit official court disposition, police report, and written statement for review. FDLE Certification documentation. Certified "entire" driving history. DD214 Member 4 or Service form (if claiming Veterans' Preference). Incomplete Applications Will Not Be Processed. Minimum Requirements: Minimum age of 19 years. United States Citizen at time of application (F.S.S.943.13(2)). High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required. Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult. All other arrests and convictions will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis. All candidates must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation (F.S.S. 943.13). If ever arrested, candidates must submit official court documents and police reports with the application. A written statement explaining the arrest and the outcome must also be attached to the application for review. Official court documents can be obtained from the Clerk of the Court in the county where the incident occurred. Documents must be submitted with your application. Must successfully pass the SWIMMING and PHYSICAL AGILITY tests prior to submitting an application. Results for all required tests must be attached to the online application. Candidates must be Law Enforcement Certified in the state of Florida at the time of application. FDLE Certification must be attached to the online application. If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 or Service form to the online application. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address. All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history. Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three-year (3), Seven-year (7), and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted. If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past ten (10) years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. For non‑Florida driving histories, please contact that state's division of motor vehicles. The search date for all driving histories must be within one month of the date the application for employment is received by the Bureau of Human Resources. Driving history records must be attached to the online application. Work involves an element of personal danger and employees must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent discretion in addressing emergency situations. Employees in this classification perform work in varied law enforcement assignments, including but not necessarily limited to motorized patrol, traffic control and enforcement, preliminary and follow‑up investigation at crime scenes, courthouse and port security, vessel patrol, scuba diving, K‑9 handling, serving writs, other court process actions, and assistance in public safety education and community service programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: patrol activities, teletype checks, firearm checks, driver capacity assessments, transportation of mental patients, prisoners or suspects; felony stops; BOLO reviews; searching for missing persons; detaining victims of domestic disputes; dwelling, building or grounds inspections; vehicle pursuits; detaining suspect vehicle drivers; alarm responses; arrests; searches of persons, places and property; riot control; subduing resisting offenders using force where appropriate up to and including deadly force; investigations, evidence collection and reporting; first‑aid and CPR; providing security for special functions; traffic related activities such as traffic stops, accident investigations, issuing citations or warnings; court process actions including serving and accounting for injunctions, notices and writs; operating law enforcement vehicles, aircraft, marine vessels or mounted units. Employees in this classification are assigned to work shifts which will include weekends, holidays, and extended emergency activation events such as hurricanes. Employees work any shift and engage in flexible work assignments that can include voluntary and/or mandatory overtime to meet agency needs. Additional responsibilities may involve operating a law enforcement vehicle; operating aircraft; operating marine vessels; operating a mounted unit. Compliance with minimum training and standards of an accredited certification institution as set forth by the recommended FDLE guidelines and CJSTC. Tasks include a criticality component in responding to crime scenes or other critical incidents, whereby incumbents are required to maintain physical abilities consistent with CJSTC standards in order to perform essential duties on an as‑needed basis. Emphasis does not consider percentage of time allocated to performing essential functions. Physical requirements may include reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, dragging, pushing, or pulling of extremely heavy objects. Tasks may involve standing, sitting or walking for long periods and exposure to heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, animals, and traffic conditions. Standard body gear and equipment applies. Must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance.
