Within approximately 6 months, opportunity to promote to Supervisor of Terminal Operations at rate of $113,000. Program Overview A Transportation Management Trainee position offers recent graduates a comprehensive introduction to the rail transportation industry, focusing on operations, logistics, safety, and customer service. This role focuses on managing daily operations, enforcing safety standards, and guiding a team toward operational excellence. Training Program Full‑time position in a 24‑hour operations environment, subject to on‑call, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Program includes a one‑week orientation at our Fort Worth headquarters, two non‑consecutive months at the Technical Training Center in Overland Park, and on‑the‑job training. Completion requires rules qualification by week 12 of the 26‑week program. Safety leader phase: learn operating and safety rules, observe train crews, and obtain rules qualification. Operations leader phase: develop program, leadership, and operational navigation skills. Travel and Relocation Travel and relocation are required. Trainees must be flexible with location and have reliable transportation. Key Responsibilities Lead safety briefings, conduct safety meetings, investigate accidents, monitor costs, and ensure compliance with regulations. Facilitate crew discussions on safety, manage compliance with attendance policies, and conduct operational audits while riding trains. Assist crews with personnel paperwork, vacation requests, and timely transportation. Correspond with customers regarding shipments and plan the movement of cars, locomotives, and crews within terminals. Implement policies, supervise employees, and manage daily train and switching operations. Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience. Work in mixed indoor office and outdoor safety‑sensitive environment, with varied weather conditions; PPE required. Daily Work Environment Mixed indoor office and outdoor environment, with extremes (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet), uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, heavy machinery. PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves) is required and provided by BNSF. Qualifications Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least 18 upon hire. Does not require BNSF assistance to obtain or maintain employment authorization. Can visually distinguish red, blue, green, yellow and clear light colors, see at night, and hear and distinguish auditory signals with training. Capable of working 24‑hour environment, including nights, weekends, holidays; can work outdoors in all weather conditions; willing to travel up to 25% of the time. Willing to relocate anywhere on BNSF operating system; ability to travel as required. Currently pursuing or earned a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Business, Communication, Technical, or similar. Maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Have less than three years of professional work experience or military service (excluding internships or part‑time jobs). Preferred Qualifications Prior internship experience or less than 3 years in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field.
