The Director, Educational Content & Learning Design will develop high-quality, evidence-based educational content and programs for both patients and kidney health professionals. This role combines clinical expertise, adult-learning science, and program leadership to accelerate NKF's ability to deliver accessible, equity-centered, and practice-changing education across National Kidney Foundation's portfolio. This Director will help shape NKF's national education strategy, curriculum design and delivery, serve as a clinical content expert, and ensure alignment across the Kidney Learning Solutions team, KDOQI clinical practice guidelines, Professional Education, Patient Programs/Services, Research, Field Programs, and other external collaborators. The ideal candidate has a clinical background, preferably in nephrology or closely related fields (diabetes, cardiology, primary care), and demonstrated success in creating impactful education rooted in adult-learning principles and health literacy best practices. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision Inform and implement NKF's integrated education strategy for patient and professional audiences across the NKF ecosystem Support the evolution of competency-based learning pathways, digital education products, patient-centered curricula, and practice-transformation programs Serve as a clinical voice within NKF, helping shape organizational content priorities, strategic partnerships, and program innovations Program & Curriculum Development Oversee the full lifecycle of various educational products, from needs assessment and design to development, launch, and evaluation Ensure content is evidence-based, clinically accurate, equity-informed, and aligned with adult-learning and health literacy standards Direct development of modular learning, active learning modalities, toolkits, case-based learning, webinars, infographics, and other innovative and engaging formats Clinical Expertise & Quality Assurance Provide clinical oversight to ensure educational content reflects current standards, guidelines, and best practices Partner with KDOQI staff, scientific advisors, practicing clinicians, and patient contributors to validate accuracy and relevance of all materials Identify emerging trends and knowledge gaps in kidney care and adjacent specialties to inform NKF's education pipeline Cross-Functional & External Collaboration Collaborate with NKF Cares, Peers, Field Programs, Communications, CKDintercept, and Patient Engagement to ensure cohesive messaging and shared learning priorities Collaborate with the Corporate Relations team to build and sustain relationships with industry and external partners that advance shared priorities and secure funding to support learning and content initiative Represent NKF at national meetings, advisory groups, and learning collaboratives as a subject matter expert in kidney-focused education Management & Operational Excellence Drive timelines, budgets, and deliverables for grant-funded or industry-supported educational initiatives Lead continuous process improvement to enhance quality, efficiency, and learner engagement Balance competing priorities across multiple projects, consistently delivering accurate, high-quality work within expected deadlines Evaluation, Analytics & Impact Develop and oversee evaluation frameworks to measure knowledge, competency, and behavior change outcomes across patient and professional audiences. Use analytics, user testing, and qualitative feedback to refine content and guide strategic decisions Ensure all professional education content meets requirements for CE/MOC accreditation (where applicable)WHAT YOU'LL POSSESS
Required Clinical degree or training (e.g., RN, NP, PA, RD, PharmD, MD/DO, or other relevant discipline) 3-5 years of clinical experience; nephrology preferred or strong experience in diabetes, cardiology, primary care, or chronic disease management Demonstrated expertise in adult-learning principles, instructional design frameworks, and curriculum development Strong ability to translate complex clinical concepts into accessible education for diverse audiences Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects Exceptional organizational, time management, communication, writing, and strategic thinking skills Strong technical literacy, including experience with collaborative documents, shared folders, messaging platforms, and other remote work technologies to support effective project coordination Preferred Prior experience overseeing education programs or initiatives in healthcare, nonprofits, academic centers, or professional societies Experience with digital learning platforms, LMS systems, and multimedia content development Experience working with guidelines, evidence synthesis, or quality improvement efforts Familiarity with kidney disease, CKD management, transplantation, dialysis, or informatics Prior experience as a peer reviewer or editorial advisory board member for a peer-reviewed journal Competencies Accountability: Takes ownership of actions, decisions, and results, ensuring high standards of performance and transparency. Leads strategic financial planning, driving revenue diversification and long-term sustainability Operational Excellence: Leads or delivers on large-scale operational changes to elevate organizational performance Patient and Community-Centered Focus: Drives efforts to enhance the impact of programs for patients, living donors, and care partners. Champions initiatives that promote equitable access to care and ensure that the community is well-supported through education, services, and outreach Change Leadership: Delivers or leads large-scale organizational change, setting the direction and guiding teams within the organization through transformations Innovation: Champions strategic innovations that position NKF as a leader in kidney health. Oversees organizational process optimization, aligning with strategic goals Strategic Mindset: Translates organizational goals into actionable plans by anticipating trends, leveraging data, and aligning resources to achieve mission-driven outcomes.
