Our client is an established leader in fire protection and life safety solutions, providing inspection, testing, maintenance, installation, and repair services for critical fire and life safety systems.
We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Service Technician to join their team in Apex, NC. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled fire alarm professional who enjoys troubleshooting, working directly with customers, and being part of a team focused on protecting lives and property.
Job Summary
The Fire Alarm Service Technician will be responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing commercial and industrial fire alarm systems. The technician will ensure systems are operating properly and remain compliant with applicable NFPA codes, local requirements, and industry standards.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring strong technical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm systems and components, including control panels, detectors, horns, strobes, annunciators, and related devices.
- Identify system deficiencies and document inspection findings and test results accurately.
- Troubleshoot fire alarm system malfunctions involving wiring, circuitry, devices, programming, and software.
- Perform necessary repairs and corrective maintenance to restore system functionality.
- Respond to service calls and emergency requests and diagnose issues efficiently.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including cleaning, calibration, battery replacement, and other necessary system maintenance.
- Read and interpret system drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Prepare detailed service and inspection reports, work orders, parts usage, and customer notes using a service management platform.
- Communicate inspection findings and recommended repairs to customers in a professional and understandable manner.
- Work with the service sales/estimating team to provide accurate information regarding deficiencies, materials, and repair needs.
- Coordinate with Service Coordinators regarding scheduling, work orders, materials, and job requirements.
- Recommend system repairs, upgrades, or improvements when appropriate.
- Maintain a professional relationship with customers and provide a high level of customer service.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous hands-on experience installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing commercial and/or industrial fire alarm systems.
- Strong understanding of NFPA 72 and applicable fire alarm, building, and electrical codes.
- Ability to troubleshoot fire alarm systems, including wiring, devices, panels, circuitry, and programming/software.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, system drawings, and technical manuals.
- NICET certification is strongly preferred.
- State-specific fire alarm licensing is preferred, or ability to obtain required licensing.
- Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel to customer/job sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work with your hands for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments.
- Comfortable working in conditions that may include noise, dust, heat, cold, low-light environments, and other job-site conditions.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Ability to use appropriate fall protection and other safety equipment when required.
Compensation: $30-$40/hr, based on experience
