ULTRASOUND TECHNOLOGIST (ON CALL) Site of Service: Twenty Nine Palms Naval Base Position Qualification / Requirements Degree: Certificate Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Certification: Certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Experience: One year of experience as a sonographer or in the specialty area within the last two years. Cardiac Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens. English Language Requirement: Must read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate. Physical Capability: Must be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods and performing all services. Core Duties Correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination and obtain results from prior pertinent diagnostic tests to correlate with the ultrasound study. Consult with staff physicians from a variety of specialties such as obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, and surgery regarding the patient's past medical history, preliminary diagnosis, and conditions to ensure correlation with the ultrasound examination. Recognize normal anatomic variants and changes created by medical and surgical procedures. Document arrival, departure, and completed tests as required by MTF policy. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol. Perform system warm‑ups, calibrations, and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and MTF policy; recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated government personnel of outlying values. Explain procedures to patients, instruct and assist patients in assuming the physical position for examination. Assist in compiling and archiving records for procedures performed. Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms directly related to the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media; inform the radiologist of any condition requiring attention. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest. Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of the affected area. Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasonic examinations appropriate to the discipline. Hours On‑call services weekdays, weekends, and Federal holidays. Weekday on‑call begins at 17:30 until 07:00 next morning; weekend on‑call is a continuous 24‑hour period from 07:00 to 07:00 Saturday, Sunday, and Federal holidays. On‑call requires an electronic paging or mobile device; the contractor is responsible for ensuring reliable communication. The schedule is provided to the contractor at least four weeks in advance and must be submitted two weeks before services begin. Minimum 72‑hour notice is required for schedule changes except in emergencies. Orientation Orientation is conducted Monday through Friday, 07:00–16:30. Each HCW undergoes up to 40 hours (one week) under the observation of a Government Ultrasound Technologist to become familiar with MTF equipment and protocols before performing on‑call services. Orientation cost is separate. Special Requirements / Skills Must be comfortable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment; able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible, teamwork, time management, and the ability to meet deadlines in an intensive environment are essential. High adaptability and willingness to embrace change are required.
