Founding Engineer

Sugar is building Revolving Credit as a Service: financial infrastructure designed to give businesses immediate, scalable access to working capital without requiring pre-funding or bank-sponsorship reserves. We are an early-stage team tackling technically demanding problems at the intersection of fintech, credit and crypto. We are looking for a Founding Engineer who can help turn that ambition into a secure, reliable and scalable product. The role What you'll do Take products from initial concept through architecture, implementation and production. Build integrations with financial, banking, payments and crypto infrastructure. Develop systems that handle sensitive financial data and business-critical transactions. Work directly with the founders to translate commercial and customer requirements into product. Help shape the technical roadmap and, over time, the wider engineering team. Move quickly while maintaining the standards expected of modern financial infrastructure. What we're looking for At least five years of professional software engineering experience. Meaningful experience working within both crypto and fintech environments. Experience in venture-backed companies between Seed and Series C, with a clear understanding of how engineering priorities change as a business scales. Strong backend or full-stack engineering fundamentals, including API design, integrations and data modelling. A record of owning technically complex products from architecture through production. Sound judgement around security, reliability and data integrity. High agency and comfort operating without extensive process, documentation or management layers. A product-minded approach and the ability to balance speed with sensible engineering discipline. Particularly useful experience Credit, lending, payments, banking or treasury infrastructure. Financial ledgers, reconciliation or transaction-processing systems. Stablecoins, wallets, custody, on-chain payments or blockchain infrastructure. Risk, underwriting, fraud, identity or compliance-related systems. Building a product or engineering function from an early stage. Hiring, mentoring or leading other engineers. #J-18808-Ljbffr
