Safety and Occupational Health Specialist.

Plan and organize continuous assignments in the development of safety program content, standards, procedures, and techniques to provide safety services. Responsible for the Standard Army Safety and Occupational Health Inspection (SASOHI) Program. Provide technical leadership and guidance to the ARNG Fixed Wing Detachments and Aviation Safety Officer’s (ASO). Plan and conduct periodic Aviation Resource Management Surveys of ARNG Fixed Wing safety programs and facilities. Initiate and carry out safety education activities by promoting safety awareness through safety councils and committees, safety stand down days. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must have the CP-12 Professional Certificate or complete Level 1 Skills outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan and/or awarded the CP 12 Professional Certificate within 12 months of hire. Position has been designated Key (2)/Mission Essential - see "Additional Details" for more information. This is an Inclement Weather position. Incumbent may be required to come or remain on duty during inclement weather. Pre-employment physical and annual physicals while in position including Pulmonary testing are required. Use of protective clothing and gear may be required. Position may require employee to work under adverse environmental conditions. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain a valid government driver’s license. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Employee may be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft to accomplish temporary duty (TDY) up to 35% of the time. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet The Qualification Requirements Listed Below: GS 11 Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience which includes assist with managing safety or occupational health program elements; assist with providing safety training briefings; and assist with implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and/or occupational illnesses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). GS 12 Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience which includes conduct aviation accident investigations; design or modify workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards; and develop and/or recommend safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
