Job Description

The Solutions Engineering Department at Nearmap is a highly technical group with diverse skillsets and backgrounds. We are made up of geographers, civil engineers, architects, and programmers who are all geospatial experts. We help our customers in various industries unlock the full value of Nearmap content by providing demonstrations that show how our 2D, 3D, and AI can be integrated into their existing applications to help them change the way they work. 

The Solutions Engineer is responsible for technical discovery and solution design for moderate to complex sales opportunities in the Nearmap Government sales vertical. You will be the technical lead on an account team selling Nearmap’s complete product stack of 2D/3D/AI content to mid-size local government organizations by showcasing how Nearmap can change the way they work. You’ll leverage insights gained from customer interactions in the field to develop new methods of getting actionable insights from Nearmap content that solves longstanding industry challenges. You’ll advise prospects and customers on the best ways to integrate Nearmap content into their systems and derive value from it. You will support our sales teams by providing pre-sales technical support including content delivery, leading technical discovery conversations, and providing solutions that meet customer requirements. A typical day for a Solutions Engineer is a mix of deep-dive technical demos showing the power of Nearmap content in GIS and asset management applications, answering technical questions related to products and integrations, attending on-site customer meetings, presenting or demonstrating at conferences, or creating new technical content showcasing cutting edge technology, products, and solutions offered by Nearmap.  

Key Relationships

Internal: Sales, Customer Success/Technical Support, Product, Product Marketing, Technology and Engineering, Survey Operations

External: Local government customers and prospects, external technology partners

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Solutions Engineers, Sales, and Customer Success teams across all verticals to support qualified sales opportunities.
• Act as the liaison between the field and Product, Engineering, and Technology teams — channeling customer feedback, escalating bugs, and shaping new features and integrations.
• Work directly with government prospects and customers to understand their business constraints, recommend solutions to their challenges, and identify additional Nearmap products and services of value.
• Assess content delivery requirements and advise on the best delivery method (offline products, custom applications, cloud platforms) to maximize the value of Nearmap content.
• Help customers unlock the analytical power of Nearmap products by developing deployable solutions and workflows for their environments.
• Build custom and scenario-based demos — tailored to the customer's tech stack, situation, and target state, or to specific use cases in support of Sales and Marketing.
• Create technical demonstrations and supporting documentation that articulate the benefits of proposed solutions.
• Lead onboarding, integration, and best-practice guidance for custom solutions.
• Represent Nearmap at conferences, speaking events, and webinars, and contribute blogs and other marketing support for the Sales team.

Qualifications

Experience

• 2+ years in a GIS-centric role, preferably with or for local government.
• 2+ years in a technical sales or sales engineering role (preferred).

Skills

• Advanced experience using geospatial content and performing analysis in desktop and web-based GIS applications, particularly the ArcGIS suite (required).
• Familiarity with public safety E911 CAD systems such as Motorola VESTA or PremierOne (highly desired).
• Experience writing or responding to RFPs/RFIs for government contracts (preferred).
• Proven ability to build compelling user stories from geospatial data stacks.

Personal Attributes

• Confident, charismatic, energetic, inquisitive, empathetic, and ambitious.
• Excellent communicator across all levels of technical fluency — able to speak with a GIS administrator one minute and a police chief the next.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• A talent for making a compelling, value-based sales argument.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, or a STEM field (minimum).
