Senior Tax Manager

The Senior Tax Manager oversees complex business and individual tax engagements, ensuring accurate compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements. This role combines high-level technical tax expertise with client-facing advisory responsibilities, including tax planning, research, and strategic guidance. The Senior Tax Manager also plays a key role in developing junior team members and supporting overall practice growth through quality-focused leadership and strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Review and oversee complex business and individual tax returns to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations.
• Manage tax compliance processes and ensure all federal, state, and local filing requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
• Conduct in-depth tax research and provide technical guidance on complex tax issues to clients and internal teams.
• Perform tax planning and advisory work for clients, identifying tax-saving strategies and optimizing year-end tax projections.
• Review year-end tax projections and recommend tax-saving strategies tailored to each client's situation.
• Serve as a client-facing advisor, helping resolve tax issues, answering technical questions, and providing clear, professional communication.
• Mentor, coach, and develop junior tax staff and tax managers, providing feedback, training, and support to enhance their technical and professional skills.
• Review work prepared by team members to ensure quality standards are met and deliverables align with firm policies and professional standards.
• Support practice growth through strong client relationship management, high-level consulting, and proactive identification of advisory opportunities.
• Collaborate with audit and tax compliance teams to ensure coordinated service delivery and comprehensive support for client engagements.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, prioritizing workloads and deadlines while maintaining high-quality service.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience in public accounting, with a strong focus on tax compliance and advisory services.
• Previous experience in a Senior-level tax role such as Tax Manager, Tax Director, or Senior Tax Manager.
• Proficiency in reviewing complex business and individual tax returns, with an emphasis on oversight and quality control rather than primarily preparing returns.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements at the same time while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of accuracy.
• Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax issues in a clear and professional manner.
• Solid technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to conduct tax research and provide sound technical guidance on complex tax matters.
• Leadership skills to mentor and develop junior tax staff and managers, including providing constructive feedback and guidance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred and may be required at the Senior Manager level.
• Experience with tax planning, year-end projections, and development of tax-saving strategies for business and individual clients.
• Background working closely with audit and tax compliance functions to provide integrated client service.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and support practice growth through advisory work.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced public accounting environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.

Work Environment

This role is based fully onsite for the first six months to support onboarding, collaboration, and integration with the team. After this initial period, the position offers one remote workday per week, with the remaining days onsite. The work environment is professional and client-focused, with close collaboration among tax and audit teams and a strong emphasis on quality, communication, and continuous learning.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Ramsey, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $160000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
