What You’ll Do: As a building substitute, you will perform related duties in the absence of the classroom teacher to provide continuity in the day‑to‑day responsibilities by implementing the teacher’s prepared lesson plans. Role Responsibilities Provide instructions according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher or create lesson plans in the absence of a prepared lesson. Uphold all district policies, rules and procedures. Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Present material using a variety of approaches, techniques, and media aids to stimulate interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity about subjects and events. Perform other related duties and/or provide classroom coverage as requested by the teacher/principal and designees. Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred) Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting (Preferred) Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency is a plus Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply Current authorization to work in the United States Citizenship, residency or work visa required What You’ll Bring Hold a deep commitment to students and families and value diversity. Additional Information Building substitutes will be hired to work at one particular school and will have a guaranteed role every day. Salary Building substitutes are full-time employees and part of the Paraprofessional Union. Pay aligns with the Para CBA.
