What You’ll Do: ELSA is a thematic, project-based, language learning summer program. As a teacher, you will provide English Language Development instruction to elementary‑aged students through an inquiry-based approach, focusing on all four domains (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). Total Hours & Schedule (Summer 2026) Pre-Program Planning & Orientation: 4 hours total (To be used for the mandatory staff meeting, program orientation, and classroom setup/prep). Program Duration: 4 Weeks (July 6th – July 31st, 2026). Weekly Commitment: 20 hours per week (80 hours total for the 4‑week session). Instructional Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Prep & Collaboration: Monday – Thursday, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Role Responsibilities: Instruction: Lead students in developing English proficiency through project-based and inquiry-based thematic instruction. Collaboration: Work with other ELSA teachers to design and assess learning that incorporates critical thinking and self‑assessment. Supervision: Monitor and support students during arrival, breakfast, lunch, recess, and dismissal. Field Experiences: Participate in field trips and off‑site learning opportunities. Curriculum Development: Evaluate and prepare teaching resources that reflect the diversity of the learning community. Assessment: Deliver pre‑ and post‑assessments to determine student growth and use data to inform daily instruction. Use daily exit tickets, formal and informal assessments to improve student instruction daily. Meetings: Attend ELSA planning meetings and data review sessions. Endorsement: Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required. Skills: Ability to meet the expectations of the MA Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
