Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant

The incumbent prepares, evaluates, and maintains the data used to create our company's financial records and statements. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality financial statements, managing accruals and allocations, and supporting financial audits. Job Scope of Responsibilities: Financial Statements: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Annual Reports: Draft the annual report and all required financial footnotes. Accounting Guidance: Communicate and explain accounting issues and new rules to the management team. Accrual Management: Manage monthly accrual inputs and reverse them once actual costs arrive. Variance Analysis: Proactively research, understand, and explain differences between planned and actual spend. Auditor Relations: Manage communications with external auditors to ensure agreement on company accounting choices. Audit Coordination: Help coordinate annual audits and quarterly review activities with external auditors. Policy Creation: Write and maintain accounting policy documents to improve clarity and consistency across the team. Internal Controls: Create and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements. Period Close: Support the accounting team during month-end and year-end closing processes. Transaction Verification: Evaluate business documents like invoices and checks to prove transactions are valid. Ledger Posting: Verify and post details of business transactions, including funds received and spent, into ledgers or spreadsheets. Data Coding: Evaluate and code financial data for system input according to company procedures. Discrepancy Resolution: Reconcile data and recommend fixes for report errors and problems. Leadership Reporting: Gather and prepare important financial data for management and the Board of Directors. Special Projects: Participate in other company and accounting projects as needed. Core Competencies Financial Management: Deep knowledge of accounting rules and reporting structures. Analytical Thinking: Ability to spot patterns, errors, and trends in complex data. Technical Skills: Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Fraud Control: Strong eye for detail to detect errors and prevent fraud. Performance Management: Ability to drive projects forward and meet strict reporting deadlines. Communication: Clear, effective speaking and writing skills for explaining complex rules to non-accountants. Ethical Conduct: Uncompromising commitment to honesty and financial compliance. Collaboration: A team-first attitude with the ability to work well across different departments. Education & Experience Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting. Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in general accounting and financial reporting. Accounting Standards: Excellent working knowledge of US GAAP and regulations. Must be able to research complex accounting rules and suggest company positions. International Standards: Knowledge and experience with IFRS is preferred but not required. Adaptability: Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities. Execution: Strong track record of following projects through to complete documentation. Software: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of accounting software and spreadsheet applications. Soft Skills: Inquisitive problem-solver who can use logic to influence key decision-makers.
