Senior / Staff Software EngineerLocation: Eden Prairie, MNWe're looking for a strong software engineer who may align at either the Senior Software Engineer or Staff Software Engineer level, depending on experience, technical depth, and scope of ownership. collaborating with colleagues and customers to gather and define product requirementsAssisting in product design and architecture developmentDesigning, developing and maintaining platform software solutions to satisfy documented requirementsFacilitating and assisting in the task estimation processWorking and communicating in a cross-functional team environment comprised of firmware engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, quality assurance engineers, product line managers, and customer support representatives, etc.Investigating and analyzing reported defects to resolve them in a timely mannerProactively providing status, raising issues, and communicating necessary information to appropriate team members on a regular basisPreparing, presenting, and participating in technical discussions and code reviewsContributing to the continued development of processes to improve the efficiency and quality of development projects; assist in formulating standards and development practices to improve our development processesWorking with all departments to continuously improve product, process, workflow, and customer experienceMaking recommendations and assisting in the implementation of new processes and toolsConsult with other engineers to evaluate interfaces between platform software solutions, embedded solutions and hardware and operational & performance requirements of the overall systemYour Experience and Background include:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.4+ years of related software engineering experience, with level alignment based on experience, technical depth, and scope of ownership.Senior-level candidates will bring 4 to 7 years of experience.Staff-level candidates will bring 7+ years of experience with demonstrated technical ownership, design or architecture influence, and/or mentoring experience.Experience with platform software solutions development using object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or C#.Familiarity with Windows API, DevExpress, and XML is a plusLinux experience is a definite plusWorking with USB and/or Ethernet devices beneficialWorking knowledge of source code management and configuration (Git)Jenkins familiarity is a plusStrong understanding of development processes, principles and objectivesExperience in development through the entire life-cycle including design, architecture, and implementationExperience with implementation of security protocols and secure implementation of cryptographic techniques, and the documentation of the security aspects of system design and implementation is highly desiredProven analytical, planning, problem solving and decision-making skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills for both a technical and non-technical audience; comfortable with direct communication with all levels of technical and business resourcesExcellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyInterested in the challenge, excitement, and responsibility of a fast-paced, growth environment; At HID, it is uncommon for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the range.
