Director of Operations

Our client is seeking a results-driven Director of Commercial Roofing to lead, develop, and grow its commercial roofing division across two office locations (Springfield, MO & Lebanon, MO.) This individual will be responsible for the overall performance of commercial roofing operations, including business development, estimating, competitive bidding, government contracts, project management, production, customer relationships, and financial performance. The Director will establish and execute a strategic plan to expand the company's commercial roofing presence, secure profitable projects, build strong relationships with property owners and decision-makers, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards. This leadership position requires a combination of sales expertise, roofing industry knowledge, estimating proficiency, operational management, financial accountability, and team development. The successful candidate will take ownership of the commercial division's growth and performance while ensuring consistency and accountability across both offices. We are looking for a strong leader who can oversee the big picture, keep projects moving, and help take the commercial division to the next level. Key Responsibilities Lead Commercial Operations : Oversee the day-to-day performance of commercial roofing operations across two locations, ensuring projects run efficiently and teams have the support they need. Drive Business Growth : Build and maintain relationships with commercial clients, identify new opportunities, and help expand the commercial roofing business. Oversee Estimating & Bidding: Provide direction and oversight for commercial roofing estimates, proposals, and bids, ensuring projects are priced competitively and profitably. Ensure Successful Project Execution: Work with internal teams to keep commercial roofing projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with quality and safety expectations. Manage Profitability: Monitor project costs, budgets, and overall financial performance to support sustainable growth. Lead & Develop the Team : Provide leadership, accountability, and guidance while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and improve operations. What We're Looking For Strong background in commercial roofing or closely related commercial construction operations. Experience with commercial roofing estimating, bidding, project management, and/or business development. Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage teams and multiple projects. Understanding of project costs, budgets, and profitability. Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. A hands-on, solutions-oriented leader who can see the big picture while understanding the details that drive success. Required Skills: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial roofing, commercial construction, or a closely related industry. Demonstrated experience estimating, bidding, selling, and managing commercial roofing projects. Strong understanding of roofing systems, materials, installation methods, labor requirements, and project costing. Experience managing project budgets, gross profit, schedules, and customer expectations. Proven ability to develop customer relationships and secure commercial contracts. Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with spreadsheets, estimating tools, project management software, and CRM or field service systems. Ability and willingness to travel between both office locations and visit active jobsites. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Preferred Experience leading a commercial roofing department or business unit. Experience preparing and submitting public-sector or government construction bids. Familiarity with public procurement procedures, prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll, and performance or payment bonds. Experience with pre-construction, plan takeoffs, specifications, and construction contract administration. Established relationships with commercial property owners, general contractors, developers, or institutional customers. Experience recruiting, developing, and managing sales, estimating, and project management teams. Relevant manufacturer certifications, roofing credentials, safety training, or construction management education. The Director of Commercial Roofing is expected to operate as the leader and owner of the commercial division’s results. This individual must be proactive, commercially minded, financially accountable, and capable of balancing growth opportunities with operational capacity and project profitability. The ideal candidate does not simply submit bids or oversee projects. They build the relationships, systems, team, and processes necessary to create a sustainable and profitable commercial roofing operation across both offices. This position involves a combination of office work, client meetings, jobsite visits, estimating, bid preparation, and project oversight. Travel between office locations and to project sites is required. Occasional schedule flexibility may be necessary to accommodate project demands, bid deadlines, and client requirements. Compensation will be based on experience, demonstrated leadership ability, and the value the candidate brings to the commercial division.
