About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to lead its philanthropy and advancement strategy. The CAO will be responsible for developing and executing a multiyear advancement plan, with a focus on building lasting relationships with donors and institutional partners, and expanding philanthropic support. This role requires the ability to connect scientific priorities with investment opportunities, and to personally engage in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects. The successful candidate will also be tasked with leading a team, managing the advancement budget, and ensuring the alignment of the company's public narrative with advancement priorities. Applicants for the CAO position at the company should have a substantial background in senior advancement leadership, a proven track record in securing significant gifts, and the ability to effectively communicate complex research. The role demands a leader who can work collaboratively with the executive team, Board and Foundation leaders, and scientists, and who is adept at translating institutional priorities into compelling cases for support. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, with a preference for those who have worked in a research, academic, health, or similar nonprofit setting. The CAO will also be responsible for recruiting, developing, and leading the advancement team, as well as ensuring sound gift documentation, controls, and compliance in partnership with the finance and other functions.
