Associate Professor or Full Professor of Clinical Practice- Section Chief of Hepatology

The Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington is recruiting a Section Chief of Hepatology. The university has robust programs in liver transplantation, advanced therapy for liver tumors, and general hepatology spanning six sites currently. The primary responsibility of the Section Chief will be to lead, manage, and inspire a team of UW general and transplant hepatologists; develop and operationalize a strategy to improve hepatology access, expand hepatology programs, and increase clinical and translational hepatology research. In addition, the Section Chief will serve as a mentor for professional development of hepatology faculty and GI trainees and work with other hepatology and transplant leaders to ensure alignment with the UW transplant institute and its directors. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of medical students, residents, and fellows during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, in concert with the GI and Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program. A successful Section Chief will increase the national and international prominence of the Hepatology section. We anticipate that the successful applicant would start January 1, 2027 or later. The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate or full Professor on the Clinical Practice Track, in the Division of Gastroenterology at 1.0 FTE. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described inUW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34.Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The base salary range for this position will be $25,834 - $40,417 per month ($310,000 - $485,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) with a range of: $3,000-$6,000 per month ($36,000- $72,000 annually). Salary Ranges: Associate Professor of Clinical Practice: $25,834 - $32,500 monthly Professor of Clinical Practice: $32, 084 - $40,417 monthly Other compensation associated with this position may include a Temporary Pay Supplement (TPS) and/or an Administrative Supplement (ADS) in addition to base pay. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Qualifications Candidates should have an MD (or foreign equivalent), board certification (or foreign equivalent) in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
