When seconds count, your decision may be the critical difference in a child’s life. What you will do Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children. Collect information through observation and interviews with children, parents, relatives, and neighbors. Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities and caregiver protective capacities to determine safety. Arrange emergency placement for children who cannot safely remain in home. Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams. Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources. Conduct initial/ongoing child present and impending danger assessments. Report indication of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline. Qualifications A high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of law enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or current honorable status). OR an associate degree or 60+ credit hours from an accredited college or university and two years of professional work experience (e.g., Guardian Ad Litem, Family Support Worker, Teacher, Paramedic) or two years of law enforcement experience or active military service. OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. An official letter or transcripts with anticipated graduation dates and credits earned must be provided for all diploma/degree requirements. Proof of conferred degree such as official transcripts or a copy of diploma must be provided within 30 days of hire. Special Notes Language proficiency may be considered depending on agency needs. May require successful completion of a pre‑interview assessment or work sample. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work or related field preferred. Additional Information / Requirements Position requires night, weekend, and holiday work, and may involve emergency situations or natural disasters. May expose incumbents to hazardous conditions in the field. Must obtain Florida Child Protective Investigator Certification within 12 months of provisional certification. All investigators must maintain certification. Valid driver’s license and operational private vehicle required. Proof of registration and insurance must be provided within 30 days of hire. Ability to attend an 8‑12 week mandatory training course, possibly scheduled during day, weekend, and evening hours. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Following policy and procedures, managing time, assessing, planning, intervening, evaluating, documenting, engaging, teaming, taking appropriate actions related to domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, establishing effective relationships with colleagues, and professional competencies. Physical Requirements Physical agility tasks include ambulating in varied terrains, entering residences, navigating stairs, assisting with evacuation, normal vision and hearing, routine repetitive movements, bending, twisting, turning, kneeling, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 30 pounds, operating vehicles, working 16‑hour shifts on occasion, and remaining alert while on duty.
