Project Accountant

The Project Accountant is responsible for the preparation and submission of monthly client billings, as well as communicating with clients regarding billing-related matters. This position collaborates with Project Managers and Principals on project-related activities and serves as a primary point of contact for project accounting needs. The Project Accountant creates and maintains accurate project records within the accounting system. Responsibilities Prepare and send draft billings to Project Managers for review and approval Create and submit invoices to clients in a timely manner Set up and maintain project records, budgets, billing terms, and other project-related information in the accounting system Assist with coding and recording consultant invoices to projects Generate and distribute monthly Accounts Receivable statements to clients Identify billing issues and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy Train and support Project Managers on project financial procedures, billing processes, and financial reporting Prepare and analyze month-end consultant budget reports and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports Respond to billing inquiries and work with clients and internal project teams to resolve billing discrepancies Prepare ad hoc reports and complete special projects as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered Minimum of 3-5 years of project accounting experience, preferably within the architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry Strong understanding of project-based accounting, including budgeting, revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project billing Exceptional attention to detail and decision-making skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments and stakeholders Dekker offers competitive benefits and salary packages based on education and experience.
