Sr/ Staff Human Robot Interaction Design Engineer

Senior/Staff Human Factors Design Engineer supporting robotic surgical systems development. Applies expertise in human-robot interaction, usability engineering, and mixed-methods research to de-risk design strategies, define user requirements, and advance product innovation across Intuitive's platform.

Responsibilities

• Lead formative research with clinicians and global customers to identify unmet user needs and innovation opportunities
• Define and manage usability design inputs for robotic systems, translating research into user and interface requirements
• Serve as human factors lead for complex development initiatives, partnering with engineering and clinical teams on design decisions
• Develop and evaluate prototypes that communicate design strategies and performance considerations
• Author human factors engineering deliverables ensuring compliance with design controls and regulatory requirements

Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant industry experience in human factors or related engineering disciplines
• BS or MS in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with HCI/HRI focus
• Deep expertise in robotics, human-robot interaction, control systems, and human-machine interface design
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize research data into actionable insights and communicate findings to diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency in user-centered design and usability engineering principles applied to product development
• Medical device or regulated industry experience preferred
• Experience with clinical interfaces and ability to work with cross-functional engineering and regulatory teams
