Volunteer for ALS Support: Friendly Visits & Tasks

Helping Hands-Help a Person Living With ALS (age 16+) Referral Volunteers will make a meaningful difference in the life of someone living with ALS and their family/friends. About the Program ALS Northwest is a regional nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people living with ALS and their families throughout Oregon and Western & Southwest Washington. Through care services, education, advocacy, community engagement, and research support, ALS Northwest works to improve quality of life and build hope for everyone impacted by ALS. About the Project Helping Hands volunteers provide support to people living with ALS through taking on daily tasks and offering companionship, through regular visits. Volunteers are matched with someone living with ALS in their area. The nature of the role will depend on the needs of the person living with ALS and their family. Volunteers are not expected to be care givers, do any care work, or be a substitute for care givers. No personal connection to ALS is required. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities will be based on both the volunteers’ abilities and the needs of the person living with ALS. They may include; preparing meals, mowing, gardening, pet care, errands, grocery shopping, helping with hobbies, basic IT, and a friendly regular visit. Participation in Helping Hands meetings, training, and check-ins Attendance at Walk ALS and other ALS Northwest events when possible.
