Assistant Principal – 1 Year Acting, Claremont Academy 2026-2027 Job Description This position is accountable for assisting the Building Principal with the administration and efficient operation of all aspects of the school facility, in accordance with sound educational principles and a philosophy that emphasizes student learning and success. The Assistant Principal assumes total responsibility in the absence of the Principal. Reports to: Building Principal. Responsibilities Contribute to the academic process, including supervision and instruction. Promote optimum attendance of all students through communication with parents, teachers, students, and counselors. Develop and reinforce a sound discipline process consistent with Worcester Public Schools’ policies. Supervise staff in line with school policy and collective bargaining agreements. Enhance public relations by promoting the school and its students. Assist with exploring, assessing, and implementing educational concepts that enhance teaching and learning under the Massachusetts Common Core framework. Ensure effective use of school supplies and timely distribution of appropriate textbooks through collaboration with department heads. Support the Building Principal in fostering a climate that promotes high student expectations and addresses diverse learning styles. Coordinate day‑to‑day functions and activities across departments and administrators. Oversee the educational process and communicate with academic and counseling staff on student matters. Contribute to the treatment and mainstreaming of students with special needs in partnership with the Special Education Department. Collaborate with the Building Principal to develop the master schedule for staff and students, including alternative scheduling methods. Promote effective utilization of teachers and staff through ongoing analysis of requirements. Supervise daily use of school facilities for academic and non‑academic activities and for community group use. Required Qualifications Massachusetts DESE Licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal for Grades 5–12. SEI Endorsement. A minimum of a Master’s Degree in an appropriate field. Basic knowledge of educational organization, administration, supervision, and curriculum development. Skill in relating to and communicating with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and the School Committee. Skill in discussing student needs and development with parents. Working knowledge of classroom management and discipline techniques. Preferred Qualifications Experience in urban school administration, including collaboration with social service agencies. Experience in multicultural education, encompassing curriculum and staff development. Work Year and Schedule Work year comprises pupil session days plus 22 non‑pupil session days. Schedules for non‑pupil session days will be arranged by the Building Principal in consultation with the Assistant Principal. Compensation Full‑time position. Salary ranges from $106,583 to $160,881 per year.
