Job Title Veterinary Technician, Operating Room A/B/C Job Profile Veterinary Technician, Operating Room A Job Summary This Veterinary Technician position encompasses operating room responsibilities, sterilizing duties, and general nursing care for large animal patients. The position reports directly to the Supervisor of Central Supply and Operating Room. Location Kennett Square, Pennsylvania (Chester County). The position is located approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia; transportation to the site is required. Job Responsibilities Assist in the preparation and circulation for all surgical procedures in a large animal hospital, including knowledge of aseptic technique, operating various surgery tables and overhead hoist systems, assisting the surgical team in donning surgical attire, and table setup. Prepare and maintain equipment for the Pool Recovery System, assign tasks, and guide personnel/students throughout the system. Maintain usual surgical requests and surgery logs, update Department SOPs, and enter appropriate billing information into EMR. Clean and maintain all Central Supply equipment and stock. Operate steam autoclaves, ETO sterilizer, and other equipment independently. Assist with ordering and receiving Central Supply stock. Inspect, test, assemble, package, and label instruments in preparation for sterilization to ensure instruments are ready and available when needed; run biological monitoring and incubate, read, and record results. Teach veterinary students and veterinary nursing students. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Requires the ability to function quickly and react to stressful situations involving patient care; experience in handling large animals, especially in techniques of restraint; good interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and clients both written and verbally. The position requires rotating and on‑call schedules, occasional overtime, and some weekend duties. The candidate must be within a 20‑minute travel time to the hospital when on‑call. Veterinary Technician Levels Veterinary Technician A: Associate of Science degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technician program and 0 to 1 year of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). CVT or a bachelor’s degree in Animal or Equine Science or other related field is preferred. Veterinary Technician B: Associate of Science degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technician program and 1 to 2 years of experience (or equivalent combination). CVT or a bachelor’s degree in Animal or Equine Science or other related field is preferred. Veterinary Technician C: Associate of Science degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technician program and 3 to 5 years of experience (or equivalent combination).
