RN Labor and Delivery/Postpartum Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP/OB) provides compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients throughout the perinatal period. This role involves conducting thorough patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, delivering direct patient care, and supervising ancillary staff. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal health outcomes, supports patient and family education, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. The position requires adherence to professional nursing standards and regulatory guidelines, with a focus on culturally competent care across the lifespan. Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Provide direct nursing care to patients in labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum settings.
• Educate patients and families with clear, culturally sensitive communication to support health literacy and care transitions.
• Supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and ancillary personnel.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Float to other hospital departments as needed, with appropriate orientation and training.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient care needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current New Mexico Registered Nurse license or active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
• Education and clinical experience relevant to labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to provide culturally competent care to patients across all ages.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• SAFER NM Technician certification.
• OPS Emergency Workshop and STABLE certification within 12 months of hire.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Experience in perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.

Special Considerations:

• Must work both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units.
• 12-hour rotating night shifts with guaranteed 36 hours per week.
• Possible coverage of holidays, weekends, occasional labor call, and overtime.
• Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials.
• Work primarily in a temperature-controlled hospital environment with occasional exposure to emotionally challenging situations.
• Physical ability to lift, position, and transfer patients using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment.
• Ability to perform effectively under stress and respond calmly in emergencies.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour rotating night shifts.
• 36 hours guaranteed weekly with occasional overtime and labor call as needed.
• Shift assignments may include holidays and weekends.
