Staff Accountant - Cox Universal Group

Position Summary

Cox Universal Group is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with numbers, and being part of a collaborative team environment.

The Staff Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations, assist with month-end close and financial reporting, and help maintain accurate financial records across multiple entities. This position also offers exposure to real estate transactions, tax support, and financial analysis, making it a strong opportunity for someone looking to grow their accounting career and expand their technical skills.

We are looking for a candidate with a solid accounting foundation, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn. The right candidate does not need to have experience in every area listed below — we are willing to train someone who is eager to grow and develop within the role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with maintaining the general ledger and supporting daily accounting operations
• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
• Support the monthly and year-end close processes
• Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts
• Assist with preparing internal financial reports and supporting schedules
• Review financial data for accuracy and help resolve discrepancies
• Support accounting related to fixed assets, loan activity, and real estate transactions
• Assist with preparing year-end tax workpapers and supporting documentation
• Help prepare business tax filings, personal property tax returns, license renewals, and 1099 reporting
• Work with the tax department to support federal and state tax return preparation and related analysis
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to answer accounting and financial questions
• Assist with special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2–4 years of accounting or related experience preferred
• Understanding of general accounting principles (GAAP)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• Experience with Yardi accounting software is a plus
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively

Position Type:

• This is a full-time position. This position requires the employee to be on site. Remote work is not available for this position.
