Mail Sorter

Job Title General working knowledge of United States Postal Services (US Government Client) directives governing the sortation, packaging, traying and bagging of First and Third Class mailings; and ability to maintain attention to detail while meeting quality assurance and job performance standards. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Sorts mail pieces by US Government Client order of precedence to prepare: 5 digit, 3 digit, states, mixed states and residual processed mailings. Prepares mail trays and mail bags in accordance with US Government Client quantity/weight specifications. Affixes mail labels to processed bags/trays, loads mail onto transporters and otherwise prepares mail for final acceptance. Operates postage scales/postage meters, conducts piece counts and completes required forms. Collates mail and conducts manual insert, sealing and labeling operations. Maintains required supplies and materials needed and has responsibility for keeping work area clean. Responsible for attaining job and quality assurance standards, and compliance with company personnel and safety policies. No prior experience or training. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
