We seek to fill a System Administrator role in Baltimore, MD. The ideal candidate is a Baltimore resident with an Associate's Degree, at least 2 years of general IT experience, and 1 year of specialized experience administering multi-user Unix Linux systems and data communications networks. Thanks, Executive Summary: HRUCKUS is looking for an experienced Unix Linux System Administrator to support MS SQL Server and Oracle UNIX Linux database operations, maintenance, and mission-critical State transportation business applications. Position Description: The Unix Linux System Administrator will monitor and coordinate all data system operations, ensure system backups and security compliance, and maintain system performance records. The role involves troubleshooting, system performance monitoring, and updating software hardware configurations for UNIX LINUX servers. Position Responsibilities: Monitor and coordinate all data system operations, including security procedures, and liaison with end users. Ensure that necessary system backups are performed, and storage and rotation of backups is accomplished. Monitor and maintain records of system performance and capacity to arrange vendor services or other actions for reconfiguration and anticipate requirements for system expansion. Assist managers to monitor and comply with State data security requirements. Coordinate software development, user training, network management and minor installation and repair of equipment. Grant and disable access for employees into Unix Linux security files and databases. Troubleshoot Unix Linux system and hardware problems, including on call remote support and or on-site support. Install and remove Unix Linux equipment and hardware. Analyze Unix Linux system problems and system performance and suggest solutions. Perform maintenance of system Scheduler, CRON. Develop and maintain scripting procedures to automate manual processes. Install and configure Power Term and dumb terminals. System performance monitoring. Coordinate with customer and technical staff in scheduling preventative and emergency maintenance activities. Serve as task leader for projects assigned by the TO Manager. Update software hardware configuration changes to the Unisys SVR4, HP-UNIX, and LINUX Enterprise Server or minicomputers. Document software hardware configuration changes. Use Maximo Service Desk software to record and track any changes or fixes to the Unix Linux environment. Provide guidance and instruction for future allocations of system hardware and software. Update UNIX LINUX servers to meet client and State standards. Apply hardware, database, and system patches to keep current. Provide monthly status report summarizing activities, tasks completed and work items. Provide support for MS SQL Server and Oracle UNIX Linux database operations, client server and web-based systems. Required Qualifications: Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or other related technical discipline (A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the above disciplines equals one-year specialized and two (2) years general experience. An additional year of specialized experience may be substituted for the required education.). 2 years of general experience in a computer-related field. 1 year of specialized experience administering multi-user, shared processor systems and data communications networks.
