Job Description

Automation Controls Technician — PLC/VFD Specialist What you’ll take on

Keep production moving: Execute routine and emergency maintenance on power, lighting, and control circuits; calibrate and test equipment to verify performance.
Master the motors: Install, service, and troubleshoot AC/DC motors (single- and three-phase); perform megger, winding resistance, and vibration tests; replace bearings and seals; align couplings.
Own PLC reliability: Troubleshoot PLCs and I/O across platforms (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, Modicon, B&R Industrial Automation). Read ladder logic, support program changes, and manage backups/restores.
Be the VFD expert: Install, program, tune, and repair VFDs; optimize parameters for efficiency and uptime.
Lead PM for rotating assets: Build and follow preventative maintenance schedules for pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors. Inspect, lubricate, adjust, and use vibration and thermal data for early issue detection.
Safety and compliance first: Apply Lockout/Tagout and work to NEC and site standards; participate in safety meetings and training.
Document and communicate: Keep precise maintenance records; update electrical drawings and schematics; partner closely with maintenance and production teams to solve recurring issues and drive continuous improvement.
Pitch in where needed: Assist with other maintenance tasks and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

What you bring

High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Technical school or electrical maintenance apprenticeship (preferred).
3+ years as an industrial electrical maintenance technician focused on motors, PLCs, VFDs, and rotating equipment PM.
Strong troubleshooting with industrial electrical systems; fluency in schematics and wiring diagrams.
Hands-on PLC maintenance and basic programming support.
VFD installation, programming, and repair experience.
Knowledge of lubrication, alignment, and condition monitoring fundamentals.
Comfort with multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes, and similar test gear.
Familiarity with NEC and relevant safety regulations.
Analytical mindset, clear communicator, effective collaborator and independent contributor.
Physically capable of lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.

Bonus points

Journeyman/Master Electrician license.
CMMS experience.
Brand-specific PLC or VFD certifications.
Vibration analysis or predictive maintenance experience.

Environment & schedule

Industrial/manufacturing setting; exposure to noise, dust, and temperature changes.
Occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work.
Tasks may require work at heights or in confined spaces.
