Executive Underwriter, Environmental Site Pollution

Site Pollution Environmental Executive UnderwriterThe Site Pollution Environmental Executive Underwriter works independently and autonomously on all but the most complex site pollution environmental accounts and cases, subject to required process oversight. Underwrites site pollution policies within established underwriting authority, evaluating risks associated with current and historical operations, hazardous materials, regulated substances, waste management, storage and disposal practices, environmental permits, remediation activities, and potential pre-existing or gradual pollution conditions. Makes analytical, data-driven decisions on whether to accept business based on information provided, including environmental reports, Phase I and Phase II assessments, regulatory records, loss history, site inspections, engineering reports, financial information, contract details, and broker submissions. Evaluates coverage needs, policy terms, exclusions, retentions, limits, and conditions, and prices the risk in accordance with underwriting strategy, appetite, authority, and profitability objectives.In parts of North America, underwrites complex or unusual site pollution policies, including risks involving significant environmental exposures, distressed or contaminated properties, redevelopment sites, brownfields, waste facilities, industrial operations, transportation or storage exposures, multi-location portfolios, contractual liability, lender or transactional requirements, and policies with high individual line size. Policies assessed will focus on accounts with a high degree of environmental, legal, financial, or technical complexity and/or larger limits and premium.ResponsibilitiesManages portfolio of brokers/agents & clients.Leverages market presence and expertise to develop and underwrite profitable business, acting as a representative for Liberty.Has relationships with senior/market-leading brokers and/or key agents.Maintains a strong market presence, including established relationships with agents and brokers. Looks to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones.Articulates key coverage differences with a high degree of detail.Participates in projects across departments designed to drive underwriting and process excellence (e.g., member of a working team).Models effective collaboration across teams, stakeholders and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in North America).Has strong knowledge of key legal cases, legislation and regulation impacting area(s) of underwriting expertise.Shares knowledge based on technical expertise, including providing external thought-leadership.Mentors, coaches, and trains other underwriters and internal partners.QualificationsDegree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Business or equivalent typically requiredA minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experienceCPCU or professional insurance designation preferredProven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibilityDemonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposesDemonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholdersMust demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issuesProven track record of developing and underwriting profitable businessAbout UsPay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location.
