Job Description

Contract roles are geared toward independent professionals interested in temporary or project-based work.

Sia Title: Project Consultant (Exempt Contractor) 

Project Title:  Community Manager

Project Length: This is a temporary position with an expected duration through 12/31/26, may extend 

Project Hours : 40 hours per week

Rate: $75-95/hour 

The expected compensation for this contract is per year. The exact pay rate will vary depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to skills, experience, and location.

We're looking for someone who thinks like both a strategist and a builder. Someone who is equally energized by understanding community behavior through data, designing engagement programs, testing new ideas, and leveraging AI to create smarter, more personalized community experiences.

What You'll Do

Own the Community Strategy

• Define what community means for an emerging AI product: who it's for, what members get out of it, and how it grows

• Build a home for the most engaged users that remains valuable, trusted, and well-run as the community scales

• Develop ambassador, advocate, and power-user programs that give highly engaged users a meaningful role in the community

• Design and test engagement programs that deepen participation, connection, and long-term community value

• Make it simple for members to run their own events and meetups through scalable programs and toolkits

• Partner closely with social, brand, and creative teams to bring what the community is creating to a broader audience

• Drive adoption in new markets through community-led outreach, adapting the approach as the product expands internationally

• Explore how AI can enable smarter, more personalized, and more scalable community experiences

Build the Growth Loop

• Partner with growth teams on referral and invite mechanics that feel organic to the community

• Identify creators, advocates, and early adopters producing compelling content and help them continue building

• Turn community participation into sustainable product advocacy, referrals, and organic growth

• Use community behavior, engagement data, and experimentation to understand what drives participation, retention, and advocacy

• Keep authentic user stories, use cases, and emerging behaviors flowing back to marketing and product teams

• Test new ideas quickly, learn from the results, and scale the programs that resonate most with members

Connect the Community to the Product

• Serve as the internal voice of the community, translating user behavior, feedback, emerging AI use cases, requests, and friction into insights Product and Engineering can act on quickly

• Identify how people are actually using and experimenting with the product, including behaviors and use cases the team may not have anticipated

• Build feedback loops between early adopters and the teams shaping the product roadmap

• Own community health metrics including activity, retention, sentiment, advocacy, and community-driven growth

• Combine qualitative feedback with participation and behavioral data to identify patterns, opportunities, and emerging needs

• Help ensure the path from product to community, and from community back to product, actually works

Qualifications

What You Bring

• 8+ years of experience across community, social, developer relations, creator programs, product advocacy, or related areas

• Experience supporting at least one consumer technology product at meaningful scale

• Demonstrated experience building an ambassador, advocate, creator, or superuser program from the ground up

• A builder mindset with experience taking community programs from idea to launch, testing what works, and iterating quickly

• Strong interest in artificial intelligence and how AI products are changing the way people create, communicate, and interact with technology

• Experience building community around an AI, generative AI, emerging technology, or highly technical product is strongly preferred

• Ideally, experience engaging early adopters or technically curious users around rapidly evolving products

• Experience scaling an online community beyond manual moderation through automation, community roles, governance, escalation paths, and scalable processes

• Strong analytical instincts and the ability to use community behavior, engagement data, and qualitative feedback to inform strategy

• Ability to translate community insights into clear, actionable recommendations for Product and Engineering

• Strong writing skills and a distinct, authentic voice. You understand internet culture, can read a room, and know how to communicate in a way that feels human rather than corporate

• Comfort operating in an early-stage environment where the product, community, and playbook are still evolving

• A track record of building trust as a core part of the community experience

Nice to Have

• Direct experience with AI, generative AI, AI-powered consumer products, AI agents, or emerging technology communities

• Experience launching or managing beta, early-access, or design-partner programs

• Experience working with highly engaged early adopters and translating their feedback into product insights

• Experience using AI, automation, or personalization to improve community engagement or operations

• Experience building community internationally

• Experience with creator-led or user-generated content ecosystems

• Experience working with a product built around a distinct character, identity, or persona
