Position Summary Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving and with input from the CEO of the Sacramento State Alumni Association, the Alumni Networks Officer is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of alumni affinity groups and networks that engage Sacramento State’s 310,000+ alumni. The position serves as an advisor and liaison to volunteer alumni leaders, guiding the development of annual engagement plans, event portfolios, and programmatic approaches that align with best practices in alumni engagement and career-connected programming. The incumbent develops tools, templates, and resources to support affinity groups and networks in creating meaningful, outcomes-oriented engagement opportunities, and works to expand adoption of technology platforms that facilitate mentoring, networking, and ongoing alumni-student interaction. The incumbent leads the coordination of scalable, volunteer-driven engagement programs that strengthen connections among alumni while advancing institutional priorities related to student success and career outcomes. This includes partnering with alumni volunteer leaders to plan and deliver programs and experiences that emphasize career exploration, mentorship, professional networking, and workforce connections for students and recent graduates. In addition, the incumbent builds and maintains collaborative relationships with campus partners to align alumni engagement efforts with broader university initiatives and develops approaches to track participation and assess the effectiveness of programs in contributing to career access, connection, and advancement. The position provides lead work direction to a part‑time graduate student intern, providing direction, project oversight, and professional development support. Overall, this role advances the mission of the Alumni Association and the University by strengthening alumni communities and leveraging alumni engagement as a driver of equitable access to career-connected relationships and opportunities. FLSA Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation) Anticipated Hiring Range $5,274 per month ($63,288 annually, Step 1) – $5,823 per month ($69,876 annually, Step 6) CSU Classification Salary Range $5,274 per month (Step 1) – $7,684 per month (Step 20). Salary step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Work Hours Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required based on operational needs. Experience and Education Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience. Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating, and managing programs or initiatives, preferably involving volunteer or stakeholder engagement. Experience working with volunteers, boards, or advisory groups in a nonprofit, higher education, or member‑based environment. Ability to effectively lead and train staff, student employees, and volunteers. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and guide program development, including setting goals, recommending improvements, and aligning activities with broader organizational priorities. Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations including alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas, facilitate discussions, and build consensus among stakeholders. Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail. Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment in interpreting policies and making recommendations. Demonstrated competence in applying judgment to resolve non‑standard problems and issues. Experience planning and coordinating events, programs, or engagement activities. Experience using technology platforms or systems to support program delivery, communication, or engagement (e.g., CRM systems, event platforms, or mentoring/networking tools). Ability to develop or support programs that promote career exploration, professional development, mentorship, or workforce engagement. Working knowledge and understanding of alumni relations principles and current best practices. Knowledge of alumni relations, student affairs, event planning, and stewardship principles and processes. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment and advancing equitable access to opportunities for diverse populations. Work Schedule Requirements Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Ability to work off‑campus, as needed. Conditions of Employment Satisfactory completion of the background check process. Preferred Qualifications Two to four years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations, higher education, nonprofit, or a related field. Experience using a customer relationship management (CRM) system. Experience supporting or implementing mentoring, networking, or career‑focused programs. Experience working in a decentralized or large organizational environment requiring cross‑campus or cross‑unit collaboration.
