Family Office Accounting Manager

Position Summary

The Family Office Accounting Manager serves an integral role in our newly formed and growing single-family office, Springmont Capital LLC (“SFO”), responsible for oversight of all family office accounting and accounts payable functions. The SFO is an investment and asset management firm supporting multiple generations of a family whose principal asset is a firm that owns and manages a portfolio of multifamily apartments. The family is active in the business and the SFO supports the family in their management of both business and non-business assets.

The Family Office Accounting Manager will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger for all individuals and entities served by the SFO, including several trusts, a private foundation and investment partnerships. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the monthly reconciliation of bank, brokerage and credit card account statements and oversight of bill payment functions performed by the Staff Accountant.

The Accounting Manager will report directly to the head of the SFO (non-family) and will be in frequent direct contact with the Family.

This role is expected to expand in scope and responsibility over time as the family office grows, with the opportunity to evolve into a more senior leadership position.

This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring comfort operating at a detailed level while also building scalable processes for a growing family office. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong interest in building and maintaining a best-in-class accounting governance framework, including the development of policies, internal controls, standardized workflows, and technology solutions for bill pay, accounts payable, cash disbursements and related financial operations.

This role will provide the right individual with the opportunity to develop and expand existing accounting and reporting offerings of the SFO, working with the Staff Accountant and the SFO’s outside accounting professionals to provide monthly performance and expense reporting for investments, households and entities served by the SFO.

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain the general ledger and accounting records across multiple families, trusts, investment partnerships and closely held entities.
• Oversees month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation and input of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, bank and credit card reconciliations, and household expense reporting across multiple entities and trusts by family office Staff Accountant.
• Prepares and distributes monthly expense reporting for households and entities.
• Coordinates performance reporting with outside accounting and investment professionals across multiple investment partnerships.
• Maintains schedule of intrafamily loans, including tracking interest accruals and payments.
• Manages SFO bill payment function and ensures its operations remain in compliance with financial controls and reporting requirements.
• Oversees payroll function and expense reporting for family household domestic staff.
• Tracks and accounts for investment contributions and distributions across a growing portfolio of liquid and illiquid investments (not investment decision making).
• Prepare and provide tax deliverables to internal and outside tax advisors (big 4 accounting firm) for tax projection and compliance purposes, including entity trial balances.
• Serves as the initial point of contact for inquiries, problems and exceptions related to the review of account reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• A CPA with at least five years of professional experience, including recent experience in a single or multi-family office or public accounting firm.
• Proficient in G/L accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct (preferred), or similar.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Experienced with reviewing and accounting for investments in public equities, bonds, and private investments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners.
• A high degree of integrity and discretion, and maintains strict confidentiality.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Active CPA license required.

Tools & Systems:

• Proficient in general ledger accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct (preferred), or similar.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Salary range: $100,000-$125,000/yr

If you are hired at Morgan Properties, your overall compensation package will also be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range .
