Utility Billing Clerk

Position Summary:Assist the Wastewater department in managing the customer accounts, prepares accurate utility bills, processes payments, and provides customer service to ensure efficient utility operations.General Statement of Duties:Billing and Account Management: Prepare and issue monthly utility bills for services public services, wastewater; enter meter readings; calculate charges; apply adjustments or discounts; and maintain accurate customer account records.Payment Processing: Accept payments via cash, check, credit card, or automated drafts; post payments to accounts; and reconcile discrepancies.Customer Service: Respond to inquiries regarding billing, account status, service initiation or termination, and resolve billing errors / billing disputes.Data and Reporting: Maintain records in compliance with Town policies; generate reports on billing, account status, and collections; and assist with audits or regulatory reporting.Operational Support: Coordinate with other departments, such as Finance, Wastewater, IT, Public Works, or Community Development, to resolve issues; assist with software upgrades or implementation; and monitor meter readings and service orders.Minimum Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent required; Associates degree in business or finance (preferred)Requirements: Use of computer and a variety of software; Ability to attend variety of meetings (some evenings required); Ability to proof read and make grammatical corrections; Attention to details and due dates for all documents; Communication skills with a variety of departments and outside agenciesExperience: Prefer 3-5 years of accounting, customer service and office related experienceReports Directly to: Assistant Town Administrator - Finance and AccountingReview Responsibility: Assistant Town Administrator - Finance and AccountingEssential Duties and Tasks:To perform this job sucessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
