Dental Assistant

Responsibilities Seat patient, review medical history, and prepare patient for dental work. Arrange appropriate dental instruments and materials for patient treatment. Assist the dentist and dental hygienist in performing needed patient services, including placing or removing rubber dam, applying topical drugs, removing celluloid or plastic strips, and providing suction/evacuation. Assist in taking and developing X‑ray films. Provide patient education regarding treatment rendered. Sterilize, clean, and maintain dental instruments and equipment. Assist clerical support in scheduling patient appointments. Assist with maintaining dental supply inventories. Assist with maintaining patient charts, progress notes, and records. Perform related work as required or directed. Work under supervision of the Dental Director, Dental Hygienist Supervisor, or designee. Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Current Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) certification. Current Healthcare Professional BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Completion of a Dental Assistant training program desired. Experience working as a Dental Assistant (desired). Required immunization status for certain infectious diseases and a TB test. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of dental office and chair‑side dental assisting practices, procedures, and techniques. Working knowledge of dental terminology and charting practices. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of dental health promotion and prevention. Working knowledge of department policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of Federal and OSHA regulations for dental clinics. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance principles and practices. Working knowledge of PHC Corporate Compliance Guidelines. Skill in use of dental tools and equipment, including X‑ray equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups. Ability to effectively communicate in English, orally and in writing with patients and coworkers. Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain current BLS certification. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic clinic environment and handle multiple demands and responsibilities. Ability to motivate patients to maintain proper dental care. Ability to prepare and maintain charts, record logs, and reports. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work requires lifting supply boxes up to 30 pounds. Employee may be exposed to radiation from X‑ray films, biohazards, and communicable diseases. Work is performed walking or standing most of the time. May require travel to satellite clinic locations. May include regular nights, weekends, including Saturday clinic. This position is not eligible for remote work.
