About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Inpatient Rehabilitation/Orthopedics - Telemetry Duration: 6 months Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Ortho experience preferred Telemetry experience IV skills Foley catheter skills Dressing change skills Description: The unit has a total of 22 beds, with 9 beds dedicated to Orthopedic patients and 13 beds for Inpatient Rehabilitation. If the medical-surgical patient census does not support staffing, nurses may be assigned Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility patients. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for medical-surgical patients and 1:6 for Inpatient Rehabilitation patients. These ratios are frequently adjusted based on the level of care required by the patient and are reviewed twice daily during staffing. Common diagnoses include total knees, hips, and shoulders, CVAs, encephalopathy, and lumbar fusions. The unit may also accommodate medical-surgical patients when bed needs necessitate. Registered nurses are not required to titrate drips. There is a charge nurse on each shift who also takes patient assignments. Patient care technicians (PCTs) are assigned to each rotation on nights to assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and vital signs. Nursing staff may need to provide primary care during urgent needs, call-ins, or vacation times. Respiratory therapists are responsible for nebulizer treatments and CPAP setup. Registered nurses will troubleshoot equipment as needed. Telemetry patients are monitored off-site by monitoring techs. Each shift, a strip is run and reviewed, and all RNs have completed a basic rhythm course. Shifts are not self-scheduled, but flexibility is encouraged to accommodate nurse preferences. Every other weekend is required, and holidays are rotated to allow staff to spend time with family. Floating requirements exist, but only to similarly staffed medical/surgical units. Scrub colors required are navy blue, and scrubs are not provided. The charting system used is Paragon. BLS certification is required for this position.
