Position Location: Boston, MA—Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute

OVERVIEW

The Breast Oncology Center Computational Biology (BCCB) group leads the computational biology efforts to characterize multi‑omics sequencing datasets that describe genetic changes across breast cancer. This involves applying existing and novel computational biology, bioinformatics, and machine learning algorithms to sequencing data and correlating them with multi‑dimensional clinical datasets that contain treatment and diagnostic information. The goal is to identify genomic alterations and transcriptional changes associated with tumor evolution, mechanisms of resistance, and therapeutic benefit, ultimately supporting personalized oncology care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Drive scientific projects by analyzing and interpreting large‑scale, multidimensional omics datasets and clinical outcomes to advance translational science with immediate potential clinical application. Develop and implement AI and machine learning methodologies for integrative analysis of cancer genomic data, including publishing software tools for the broad scientific community. Design and implement algorithms to analyze and integrate large data sets, maintain datasets, and support shared tools. Lead and contribute to manuscript preparation, scholarly reports, conference presentations, and internal/external project reports. Actively participate in project‑team and group meetings. Collaborate with a team of scientists to foster a culture of scientific excellence. Assist in mentoring junior analytical staff and graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, computer science (Machine Learning), physics, math, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline. Experience with cancer genomics, computational analysis, algorithm development, statistics, and machine learning. Experience with AI and machine learning methods applied to cancer genomics. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language; knowledge of scientific programming environments such as Python or R is preferred. Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills. Ability to conduct self‑directed and collaborative research. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a large, interdisciplinary team and meet deadlines while multitasking.

PAY AND BENEFITS

Pay range: $72,000.00 – $76,385.00, based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications. For union positions, the pay is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The hiring range reflects market pay structures and is subject to business needs.
