Position Title Manager, Stewardship & Reporting Position Summary Scripps Research, a world‑renowned nonprofit biomedical research institute, is seeking a detail‑oriented and creative Manager, Stewardship and Reporting to join our Philanthropy team. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations and Engagement Communications, this position is central to how we communicate impact to our donors. The Manager will serve as the primary driver of report and proposal development, working cross‑functionally with faculty, graduate students, finance, and academic affairs to gather content and craft compelling narratives. This role combines strong writing and design capabilities with meticulous project management, ensuring the timely execution of 100+ annual stewardship reports, gift acknowledgements, donor profiles, and recognition milestones throughout the year. Responsibilities and Duties Report & Proposal Development (70%) Produce content, including writing, copy editing and graphic design for approximately 100+ annual stewardship reports Work with faculty, graduate office, graduate students, finance department, and academic affairs department to gather content for various reports Manage the development of the annual donor stewardship report Draft, edit, and design fundraising proposals as assigned Manage the Philanthropy Content library ensuring collaterals stay updated and regularly sharing messaging and other content resources with the philanthropy team Provide oversight for outgoing donor communications as assigned Stewardship (20%) Maintain and execute a donor profile production calendar including donor profiles for the website, annual stewardship report, and Scripps Research magazine. Conduct interviews and draft stories Develop compelling, timely, donor‑centric communications including student notifications and recent news to equip gift officers with meaningful touchpoints between solicitations Oversee execution of stewardship matrix for gift recognition including developing strategies for engaging milestone giving anniversaries, first‑time donors and monthly donors. Regularly review and update gift acknowledgement letters Gift Execution Management (5%) Coordinate and track endowed fellowships, graduate awards, endowed chairs, and other awards Review gift agreements as assigned and conduct research on past gift agreements as needed Oversee the project management system and audit CRM to ensure accurate tracking of new reports and proposals Recognition/Physical Signage (5%) Maintain a dynamic menu of naming opportunities including a complete audit of historical records Work with the Director, Assistant Director, and gift officers to execute physical signage across campus and awards for stewardship events Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process Requirements Bachelor's degree required; 3+ years of experience in development, donor relations, engagement communications, or a related field preferably in a higher education or research environment Exceptional writing, storytelling, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex science and philanthropy into compelling narratives Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with donors, volunteers, and institutional Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and a dynamic team calendar Familiarity with donor databases and CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge) Experience with project management software (e.g. Asana) While subject to change based on business needs, this is an on‑campus position requiring a minimum of 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home Compensation The expected hiring range for this position is $86,200 to $95,320 annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
