Responsibilities The Payor MSL is a field‑based scientific and clinical expert who drives payer‑focused strategy by translating clinical, HEOR, and real‑world evidence into value narratives that inform coverage, reimbursement, and access decisions. Key aspects of this role include engaging in peer‑to‑peer scientific dialogue with healthcare professionals to generate meaningful insights, serving as a therapeutic expert, and engaging in health‑economic discussions with decision makers and influencers within U.S. public and private healthcare entities, including managed care organizations, specialty pharmacy providers, pharmacy benefit managers, integrated delivery networks, and other healthcare networks. Additional responsibilities include: Establish, cultivate, and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs while developing a strong understanding of clinical practice as it relates to areas of interest to advance scientific and medical knowledge. Plan and execute medical strategy and engagement for the assigned customer. Communicate clinical and scientific data to KOLs and healthcare professionals through presentations, educational programs, and scientific discussions. Serve as the primary resource to provide support for addressing unsolicited medical questions and other scientific exchange matters. Identify, gather, and document payer and field‑generated scientific insights to drive innovative Medical Affairs strategies while complying with industry and corporate policies and procedures. Maintain scientific and clinical knowledge base through continuous learning and awareness of related scientific literature to enable meaningful scientific exchange. Partner cross‑functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access, HEOR, and Commercial teams to ensure aligned, compliant, and customer‑centric payer engagement strategies. Leverage knowledge of standards of care and company/investigator‑sponsored clinical trials and competitor landscape to facilitate external‑internal research communication. Respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries of HCPs, investigators, healthcare systems, academic medical centers, and treatment team members by integrating scientific data including real‑world evidence into practice. Deliver scientific presentations to formulary committees and other key healthcare decision makers, communicating the health‑economic model and supporting clinical data, and serve as the primary field‑based resource to address related questions. Demonstrate strong expertise in health‑economic model design and effectively communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible manner to diverse audiences. Maintain deep knowledge of cost‑effectiveness models and budget impact models to support informed decision‑making and value discussions. Requirements MD, PhD, PharmD, PA, NP, OD or equivalent degree highly preferred. 5+ years of industry experience as a Medical Science Liaison required. Clinical or related practical experience in ophthalmology preferred. Strong scientific and clinical acumen. Ability to quickly understand and translate complex scientific data and understand its potential impact on clinical practice and research needs. Experience in Managed Care/PBM, HEOR activities, or strong knowledge of P&T committee processes. Ability to travel up to 60% nationally, including overnights and weekends if required, and possess a valid driver’s license. Salary & Benefits The annual base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $197,500. Salary may vary based on qualifications and performance.
