Pastry Cook

Job Summary

HiPPO is seeking a skilled and motivated Pastry Cook to join our culinary team. This position plays an important role in the preparation and execution of HiPPO’s pastry and dessert program.

The ideal candidate has a good foundation in pastry techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft, maintains high standards of quality and consistency, and works well as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate professionally with the Chef and culinary team throughout prep and service.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of HiPPO’s pastry menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, techniques, and plating standards.
• Execute fundamental pastry techniques with a strong understanding of ingredients such as starches, fats, sugars, liquids, eggs, and flavorings.
• Manage the organization, preparation, and daily production of the pastry station.
• Prepare and execute high-quality pastries and desserts while maintaining consistency, proper portioning, and presentation standards.
• Follow recipes and established preparation procedures to ensure quality and consistency.
• Properly label, date, rotate, and store products while minimizing waste and maintaining product freshness.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of pastry ingredients, techniques, equipment, and food-safety practices.
• Work efficiently during both prep and service while communicating and collaborating effectively with the culinary team.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pastry station and kitchen environment.
• Support the overall success of the kitchen by maintaining a professional, positive, and team-oriented approach.

Qualifications

• Current ServeSafe Food Handlers certification.
• Previous experience (1-2 years) in pastry and dessert production, preferably in a professional, fine-dining, or high-volume restaurant environment.
• Strong understanding of pastry fundamentals, including baking, doughs, creams, sauces, and dessert plating.
• Ability to work efficiently and remain composed in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow recipes, maintain consistency, and meet production deadlines.
• Professional attitude with a strong work ethic and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to cleanliness, food safety, and maintaining high culinary standards.
• Availability to work daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required.
