You will be responsible for conducting energy audits, analyzing building systems for efficiency, and overseeing mechanical system design throughout all stages of a project. This role involves close collaboration with multiple disciplines, conducting site visits, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. You will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of system designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and energy efficiency goals.Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Mechanical Design & Coordination:Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team during the schematic design development and contract document phases of a project.Review mechanical documents for conflicts with other disciplines and propose resolutions.Write and edit mechanical specifications, select equipment, mechanical systems, and devices.Provide guidance and QA/QC on the work of Mechanical Project Engineers, Mechanical Project Coordinators, or Mechanical CAD Technicians as needed.Conduct work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines to ensure proper integration and project success.Coordinate and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents.Provide construction contract administration support as needed.Energy Audits & Assessments:Conduct energy audits for buildings or systems to identify areas where energy is wasted and propose solutions to improve energy efficiency.Analyze building systems to pinpoint inefficiencies and work towards enhancing overall energy performance.Participate in reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance.Collaboration & Communication:Establish meetings and participate in discussions with governing agencies, clients, and other project stakeholders for code compliance and project progress.Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of mechanical design documents on schedule.Communicate project updates to stakeholders, including progress on energy audits, design changes, and system improvements.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis.A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings.Have a P.E. (Professional Engineer) license.Experience with healthcare, science and technology, or civic facilities.Interest in or experience with sustainable design/LEED certification is desired but not required.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.Previous experience in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Experience with commercial or institutional facilities.Proficiency in computer software such as MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and manufacturer selection tools.Experience working with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.Competencies:Mechanical Engineering Expertise: Knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC, energy efficiency, and performance optimization.Problem-Solving/Analysis: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in system inefficiencies and optimization.Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams.Communication Proficiency: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and technical teams.Energy Management Knowledge: Familiarity with energy auditing techniques and the application of mechanical systems to energy efficiency projects.Work Environment: This role is primarily based in an office setting, with occasional visits to client job sites. The noise level at job sites may vary, and engineers should be prepared for different working conditions.Physical Demands:Regularly required to use computers and office equipment, manipulate, handle, and feel objects, and reach with hands and arms.Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch.Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:The typical work schedule is up to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, generally from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.Travel:May Require travelAdditional Eligibility Qualifications:Security Clearance / ITAR Compliance: This position involves access to information governed by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
