Direct Support Assistant

Direct Support Assistant Responsibilities Provide supports and services. Advocate, encourage, guide and teach individuals in expressing personal choice. Ensure community integration. Assist individuals with personal hygiene care, toileting, dining, dressing, meal preparation, lifts and transfers. Help individuals participate in games and recreational programs. Coach and encourage individuals to develop daily living skills. Provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. Work with other staff to carry out care plans and record care plans. Administer medication in accordance with special instructions. To learn more about what direct professionals do on the job every day, go to: Minimum Qualifications Have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or DSP Certificate from an accredited organization). Have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and maintain it throughout employment as a DSA. Meet physical and agility standards. Additional Information This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Employees hired under NY HELPS may be appointed to permanent competitive status within one year of permanent appointment without taking an exam. Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. Salary: From $52,225 to $56,413 annually (includes statutory hiring rate, increased hiring salary, and geographic pay differential). Benefits include: Paid holidays: 13 per year. Paid vacation: 13 days initially. Paid personal leave: 5 days per year. Paid sick leave: 13 days per year (PEF/CSEA). Professional leave: up to 3 days per year. Health care coverage for employees and eligible dependents, including family dental and vision plans at no extra cost.
