Director - Internal Communications

THIS IS A CONTRACT (12 MONTH) TO PERM POSITION BASED IN OUR NEW YORK CITY OFFICE.

SoundCloud is looking for a Director of Internal Communications to lead the strategy and execution of our global internal communications program. Based in New York, this role will partner with senior leadership and teams across the company to strengthen how SoundCloud informs, engages, and connects our global workforce.

A key priority for this role will be leading the successful migration and launch of SoundCloud’s next-generation intranet. You will serve as the communications and program lead for a large, cross-functional team spanning People & Culture, IT and Cybersecurity, Brand, Communications, Finance and SoundCloud’s Webflow owners. You will establish the project’s governance and roadmap, align stakeholders, oversee content strategy and migration, and drive employee adoption of the new platform.

This role is crucial to fostering a strong culture of collaboration, inclusion, and connectivity by ensuring employees have timely access to clear, useful, and engaging information.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee a comprehensive internal communications strategy serving employees across SoundCloud’s global offices, including New York, Los Angeles, Berlin and London, setting the strategic direction in close partnership with the executive team
• Lead SoundCloud’s intranet migration from planning through launch and adoption, including platform governance, stakeholder alignment, information architecture, content strategy, content auditing and migration, testing, training and ongoing optimization
• Serve as the central program lead for a cross-functional intranet working group spanning People & Culture, IT, Brand, Finance and more, establishing clear roles, milestones, decision-making processes and accountability
• Partner with technical and business stakeholders to ensure the new intranet meets employee needs while aligning with SoundCloud’s brand, security, privacy, accessibility and operational requirements
• Partner with Chief of Staff to produce agenda, content, and coordination of speakers for internal events, including monthly company-wide All Hands
• Counsel executives and senior leaders on communications that provide employees with clarity, context, and connection to SoundCloud’s business priorities
• Identify and manage opportunities to elevate SoundCloud and its executives through relevant industry awards and recognition programs, including developing and submitting compelling nominations
• Oversee SoundCloud’s internal editorial calendar, delivering timely communications related to company strategy, People initiatives, organizational change and workplace culture
• Align internal messaging, employee experience and employer branding with SoundCloud’s mission, core behaviors and product positioning
• Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to develop employer-branding strategies that position SoundCloud as a best-in-class employer and help attract a diverse pool of candidates on Linkedin, Glassdoor and beyond.
• Manage and continually improve SoundCloud’s internal communications channels, including the intranet and employee newsletters, using engagement data and employee feedback to assess effectiveness
• Partner with People and Workplace teams to develop communications strategies that increase engagement and enhance the employee experience
• Collaborate with the DEI team and Diversity Resource Groups to promote initiatives and programming through messaging that fosters understanding, inclusion, and engagement across the organization
• Monitor trends and emerging practices in internal communications, employee engagement, and workplace technology, providing guidance and new ideas to internal stakeholders

Experience and Background:

• 8+ years of internal communications experience within a global company or agency environment
• Demonstrated experience leading a large-scale intranet implementation, migration or digital workplace transformation involving multiple business and technical functions
• Strong program and project-management skills, including experience establishing governance, coordinating complex workstreams, managing competing priorities and holding stakeholders accountable to deadlines
• Experience leading change-management and employee-adoption programs for new platforms, systems or ways of working
• Ability to translate business, technical, security and employee-experience requirements into a clear strategy and executable plan
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across cultures, functions and levels of seniority
• Experience developing and executing internal communications strategies within a global organization
• Confidence working with and providing counsel, guidance and constructive feedback to senior executives
• Exceptional design and branding acumen, with experience developing presentations, videos and creative collateral
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, adapt quickly and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to build alignment, navigate differing stakeholder perspectives and move complex cross-functional initiatives forward
• Experience using data, analytics, and employee feedback to assess communications effectiveness and improve engagement

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $175,000 annually. The final salary offered will be determined based on relative experience, skills, internal equity, and location. We also offer a generous total rewards program - read more about additional benefits and perks below!
