Job Summary Associate – Tax – Tax Controversy Locations: Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Washington, D.C. Minimum experience: 2 years in complex tax disputes. Responsibilities Advises clients on complex tax issues at every stage of a U.S. federal, state, local, or cross‑border tax controversy matter. Consults on the identification, management, and resolution of potential and actual tax controversies in a transactional context. Leverages experience from government (IRS and U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division) and strong working relationships with tax authorities to minimize dispute scope and achieve cost‑effective resolutions. Collaborates with Latham’s Supreme Court & Appellate Practice on litigation, applying advanced substantive, procedural, and evidentiary rules to secure favorable outcomes. Handles a broad range of controversy matters including corporate income, partnership, transfer pricing, international tax, SALT, and criminal tax issues. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in complex tax disputes, including corporate, partnership, transfer pricing, international tax, SALT, and criminal tax matters. Strong analytical and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Benefits and Compensation Competitive base salary range (Class of US Payroll 2026): $225,000. Potential discretionary bonuses may be available depending on application circumstances and position.
