Principal AI Engineer

We’re seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the design and evolution of an enterprise AI‑native engineering platform that enables software teams to build, test, and deploy AI‑powered applications at scale. This is a highly technical individual contributor role focused on building agentic engineering capabilities, AI‑augmented developer workflows, reusable agent frameworks, and modern CI/CD platforms that improve engineering velocity while maintaining quality, security, and governance. Must be located in Chicago, IL - This is a hybrid, on‑site position. What You’ll Do Design and build an AI‑native engineering platform supporting agentic development workflows Develop reusable agent frameworks, skills, and orchestration patterns Integrate AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot into the software delivery lifecycle Build and enhance AI‑enabled CI/CD pipelines with automated quality and security guardrails Partner with Architecture, Security, Cloud Engineering, and Development teams to drive platform adoption Mentor engineers on AI‑native software engineering practices and platform capabilities Evaluate emerging AI technologies and help shape the organization’s long‑term AI engineering strategy Required Experience 9+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years building or supporting AI‑augmented development platforms or agentic systems Deep understanding of AI‑native software engineering and modern SDLC practices Hands‑on experience with LLM‑based engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar Strong experience with GCP, Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform, and Infrastructure as Code Experience building developer platforms or internal engineering tooling Strong understanding of application security, software supply chain security, and AI‑related security considerations Preferred Experience Experience with multi‑agent orchestration and context engineering Experience building platform engineering or inner‑source programs Cloud or AI‑related certifications Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related discipline #J-18808-Ljbffr Hirewell
