Engineer I/II/III

Responsibilities Responsible for providing engineering and project management for sanitary sewer, stormwater, facilities, roadway and other capital improvements projects. Oversees, reviews, and inspects the work of contractors and consultant engineers to ensure adherence to bid specification and plans. Serves as a project coordinator, ensuring that engineering plans and calculations meet required standards. Provides engineering support by creating engineered design drawings using AutoCAD (Computer Aided Drafting), specifications and schedules. Approves consultants' and contractors' payment invoices, ensuring that work completed is proportional to the amount of payment requested. Performs field inspections and surveys, and prepares a variety of technical reports, cost estimates, and correspondence. Reviews submitted plans, drawings and proposals, and assists with citizen requests and plan reviews as needed. Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) program in an approved engineering or engineering technology degree is required. Must obtain the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control Plan Reviewer and Stormwater Management Plan Reviewer certification within 12 months of hire (applicable to certain positions). Applicants with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant industry experience, who have passed the FE exam and are designated as an EIT through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation may be considered for hire as an Engineer II (base salary $83,652). Applicants with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant industry experience, who are registered as a valid PE in any of the 50 United States may be considered for hire as an Engineer III (base salary $92,227). Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre‑employment checks, including criminal history, background and DMV record checks. Ability to serve as the technical expert on construction projects and make necessary field changes. Proficiency in using AutoCAD. Comprehensive understanding of engineering concepts and principles, with a focus on sanitary sewer, water systems, and stormwater construction and design. Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems related to building construction is preferred. In-depth knowledge of construction management principles and practices, including planning and design principles. General understanding of project management and the capacity to prioritize and delegate work effectively. Familiarity with local government, land use regulations, and urban planning. Ability to adapt to various work environments, such as office settings, construction sites, or outdoor locations, which may involve exposure to different weather conditions. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment and engineering machinery and tools, including a level, blueprint machine, computer, calculator, drafting utensils, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
