This is a highly travel-focused, field-based position ideal for technicians who enjoy working independently, solving technical problems, and supporting customers directly at their facilities.Candidates should ideally be located within approximately a four-hour drive of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, or near a major airport that provides convenient access to customer locations across the country. While assignments may occur anywhere in the U.S. based on customer and business needs, our Fond du Lac, WI office serves as the technician's home office and primary location for onboarding, technical training, and ongoing development.This role requires extensive travel, including overnight and multi-day assignments. The position works across mechanical, electrical, and CNC systems and performs assignments based on verbal or written direction from Technical Support, the Service Coordinator, or Service Manager, as well as information contained in drawings, service documentation, and other technical materials.This role also operates and evaluates equipment to verify that machine accuracy, performance, and quality meet required specifications. The Field Service Technician works directly with customers, provides technical instruction, identifies potential safety concerns, documents service activities, and provides feedback that can contribute to the continued improvement of Fives products.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, demonstrate, qualify, repair, and modify Fives machines and associated equipment at customer facilities, including mechanical, electrical, and CNC systems.Follow verbal and written technical instructions and interpret drawings, service documentation, and other equipment documentation.Operate machines and associated equipment at customer facilities to demonstrate or qualify equipment.Observe customer qualification runs and verify that machine accuracy and quality meet applicable specifications.Notify Technical Support or the Service Coordinator when deviations from specifications occur or technical problems are encountered.Prepare complete and accurate service reports in accordance with established procedures.Train customer personnel on the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of machines and equipment, with an emphasis on required safety precautions.Notify customers of unsafe operating practices observed while performing field service activities.Provide feedback and recommendations that support the improvement and development of Fives products.Maintain regular and predictable attendance.Work overtime and/or off-shifts as required by business and customer needs.Work and interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders on a routine basis.Maintain awareness of and compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements.QualificationsStrong mechanical, electrical, and CNC technical capabilities appropriate for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and qualifying industrial equipment.Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent; two to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Valid driver's license.Ability to obtain a passport and credit card as required for business travel.Ability to read and understand international print symbols when required.Ability to safely and effectively use general hand tools.Ability to read and analyze professional journals, technical procedures, business materials, and applicable governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software.Ability to effectively use internal service and communication systems.Professional CompetenciesStrong customer service and interpersonal skills.Ability to represent Fives professionally while working at customer facilities.Positive and professional approach to interactions with customers and colleagues.Commitment to delivering high-quality work.Ability to communicate technical information effectively with customers, managers, and internal support teams.Ability to work independently in a field-service environment.Flexibility to respond to changing customer and business requirements.Commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.Physical & Work Environment RequirementsRegularly use hands for handling equipment, tools, and components.Frequently reach with hands and arms.Occasionally stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.Perform work requiring color vision.While performing field service duties, employees may frequently work near moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally encounter wet or humid conditions, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, electrical hazards, and vibration.
