• Days: 3x12's 6am-6:30pm
• Swing: 4x8's 4pm-12:30am
• Nights: 3x12's 6pm-6:30am

Compensation: $20-24/hour + Shift Differential

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of the Northpoint clinical team, the Medical Assistant – Clinical Support will provide direct clinical and operational support to the nursing and medical teams in the care of patients receiving residential substance use disorder treatment. The Medical Assistant will assist with the collection of patient information, vital signs, laboratory specimens, EKGs, medication-related duties as permitted by applicable law and certification, inventory management, and other clinical support activities. This position will work closely with Registered Nurses, Advanced Practice Providers, physicians, therapists, case managers, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to promote safe, efficient, compassionate, and high-quality patient care. The Medical Assistant will support the nursing team by completing delegated clinical tasks within the individual's education, training, certification, competency, and applicable scope of practice. The Medical Assistant will promptly communicate changes in patient condition, abnormal findings, patient concerns, and other clinically significant observations to the appropriate licensed clinical staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:

Clinical Support

• Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations or concerns to the nursing and multidisciplinary treatment teams.
• Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, oxygen saturation, weight, and other measurements as directed.
• Obtain and document patient information through structured interviews, questionnaires, and other approved data-gathering processes.
• Assist with collection of patient histories and other relevant information as directed by nursing or medical staff.
• Obtain laboratory specimens, including venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, when appropriately trained and permitted by applicable law and company policy.
• Perform CLIA-waived testing as trained and competency-validated.
• Perform and obtain EKGs according to established procedures and communicate abnormal or concerning results promptly to the appropriate licensed clinical staff.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist licensed clinical staff with examinations and procedures as directed.
• Accurately document clinical information and completed tasks in the electronic medical record.
• Monitor patients for observable changes in condition and promptly report significant findings, abnormal vital signs, behavioral changes, withdrawal symptoms, or other concerns to the appropriate RN or provider.
• Assist nursing staff with obtaining information necessary to support withdrawal management monitoring and other established clinical protocols. The Medical Assistant does not independently perform nursing assessments or exercise nursing judgment.
• Assist with patient admission, orientation, transfers, and discharge activities as assigned.
• Provide appropriate patient education and reinforcement of information within the Medical Assistant's training and scope, and refer clinical questions to the appropriate licensed staff.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of medical supplies, laboratory supplies, PPE, and other clinical materials.
• Monitor expiration dates and storage conditions of clinical supplies and report expired, damaged, or compromised supplies.
• Assist with coordination of appointments, laboratory services, follow-up care, and other patient needs as directed.
• Complete documentation accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner according to HIPAA, state laws, and Northpoint policies and procedures.

Medication Support

• Obtain and maintain QMAP certification when required by the position, applicable regulations, or facility requirements.
• Complete all required medication administration training and competency evaluations before performing medication administration duties.
• Administer medications only when legally permitted, appropriately delegated or authorized, and within the individual's current certification, competency, and scope of practice.
• Follow all medication administration procedures, including patient identification, medication verification, appropriate documentation, medication storage and security, and reporting of medication errors or adverse reactions.
• Immediately report patient complaints, adverse reactions, medication refusals, changes in condition, or other concerns related to medication administration to the appropriate licensed nurse or provider.

Laboratory and Diagnostic Services

• Perform venipuncture and laboratory specimen collection within the individual's training, competency, and applicable scope.
• Properly label, process, store, and transport laboratory specimens according to established procedures.
• Perform CLIA-waived testing after completion of required training and competency validation.
• Complete required quality control procedures and documentation for point-of-care testing.
• Perform EKGs according to established procedures and ensure results are appropriately documented and communicated.
• Report abnormal or unexpected laboratory, point-of-care testing, EKG, or vital-sign findings promptly to the appropriate RN or provider.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

• QMAP certification or the ability to obtain QMAP certification within the timeframe required by the Company required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Current Medical Assistant certification preferred
• Previous healthcare experience required; experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, detoxification, emergency medicine, or other inpatient settings preferred.
• Demonstrated competency in vital signs, patient interviewing, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and EKGs preferred.
• Current and nationally accredited CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
• Knowledge of computer and electronic medical record systems; experience with KIPU preferred.

• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
• Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record
