Senior Accountant

Job Title: Senior Accountant Type: Temp to Hire Industry: Not-for-Profit Location: Madison Compensation: $75-80K (depending on level of experience) Schedule: M-F 8-5pm (onsite for the first few months then 2 days remote) Benefits: For eligible employees we offer medical, dental, vision, and 401K.

Job Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to manage and analyze financial transactions, ensure compliance with GAAP principles, and support organizational financial goals. The role involves overseeing various accounting processes, preparing reports, and fostering process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify, consolidate, and enter sales and revenue transactions; calculate and file sales taxes.
• Collaborate with the payroll specialist for accurate journal entries and serve as payroll backup.
• Monitor inventory activities and record expenses.
• Track and report grant expenditures, aligning with budget requirements.
• Perform month-end and year-end closings, including:
  • Reconciling bank accounts and general ledger activities.
  • Preparing journal entries and financial statements.
  • Capitalizing fixed assets and recording depreciation expenses.
• Manage prepaid and loan schedules and ensure compliance with accounting policies.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of accounting experience
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
